Matsushita Electric Works, Ltd. (MEW) traces its roots to the company started in 1918 by Konosuke Matsushita. In 1935, the forerunner of MEW was established to carry on the work of the initial wiring products business. Our former sister company, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (MEI), has the same roots. Since October 2004 MEI has been our major shareholder.
MEW operates in six business sectors: lighting, information equipment and wiring products, home appliances, building products, electronic and plastic materials, and automation control devices. Our products are used in houses, buildings, commercial and public facilities, and factories to support communications, industrial, and everyday living and working activities.
We actively work toward the creation of new products and new businesses. MEW continues its efforts at value-creating management with growth in new directions by offering attractive solutions for diverse customer needs. As part of our strategic focus, the brand name “Panasonic” will apply to all products in future. In April 2005, the name of our overseas companies also changed to Panasonic Electric Works.
